Larvae Knowledge Incubator

Prior knowledge from BIO291

In order to prepare for this exercise and to write the report, it is important to have the necessary understanding of the physiology of the fish embryo and larvae. Likewise, it is important to understand how fish take up oxygen from the water and some of the physics involved. The following topics should be familiar before the lab:

  • Metabolism and oxygen consumption
  • Revisit “Energetics”
    • Topic: Respiration
  • Revisit “Eggs and larvae”
    • Topic: Physiological challenges related to nutrients and energy
    • Topic: Physiological challenges related to respiration
  • Revisit “Temperature”
    • Topic: Q10
  • Revisit “Gas Properties, Circulation, Respiration and Gas Exchange”
    • Topics: all topics related to oxygen uptake, gas solubility, oxygen supply
  • Methods for analysing oxygen uptake- the principles
    • Open respirometry
    • Closed respirometry
  • Oxygen solubility in water (Lecture by Snuttan)
